Fair Housing Challenge: Stand Up for Racial Equity
As NAR continues to strengthen its commitment to fair housing in the real estate industry, 2021 President Charlie Oppler asks that our appointed and elected leaders in the association join the challenge to do the same by completing Fairhaven Fair Housing Simulation and Implicit Bias Training by April 9, 2021. Another opportunity is to earn your At Home With Diversity® certification.

Fairhaven is a new, online, immersive simulation that uses the power of storytelling to make learners confront fair housing discrimination in scenarios that we hope feel real. Learners in the fictional town of Fairhaven play the role of an agent. In the simulation, they work against the clock to close four deals. As learners interact with clients and colleagues in each scenario, they will confront some form of discrimination—based on race, national origin, disability, familial status, sexual orientation, gender identity. The scenarios in Fairhaven are inspired by real fair housing cases, and by conversations held with NAR members.
The new online workshop helps REALTORS® understand how our unconscious brains categorize information and stereotypes and offers practical tools to override hidden biases. The workshop offers many “de-biasing” practices that not only help to reduce bias, but also improve our relationships with all the people we encounter—being more responsive, growing our networks, and generating more business.
At Home With Diversity®
The At Home With Diversity® (AHWD) certification course teaches REALTORS® how to work effectively with diverse populations so they can build business success in today’s multicultural real estate market.
All volunteer leaders and committee members have the opportunity to complete the recently revamped At Home With Diversity® certification course on March 1, 2021 at no cost. This course will be offered via Zoom led by two dynamic instructors: Robert Morris, AHWD, and Matt Difanis, AHWD.
Upon completion of the AHWD certification course, all leaders will have the opportunity to obtain the AHWD certification with a discounted one-time application fee of $40 through May 31, 2021. (Regular application fee is $75.) Submit application fee here.
Completing these three programs will empower REALTORS® to:
- Confront and check their own biases;
- Honor the Fair Housing Act, and
- Work to end discrimination in housing, one interaction at a time.
