Legislative Activity

Recognizing that events in Albany and Washington D.C. greatly affect the ability of private property owners to freely buy, sell and use real property GCAR, in partnership with State and National associations is active in helping to mold legislation beneficial to private property owners.

The REALTORS Political Action Committee (RPAC) works for REALTORS® in Albany and Washington, D.C. Your contributions to RPAC support federal, state and local lawmakers who share the REALTOR® commitment to promoting homeownership and private property rights.

RPAC is administered by an autonomous group of REALTOR® trustees representing all regions of New York. Decisions on contributions to candidates are based on an individual’s voting record, not party affiliations. It is a candidate’s demonstration of support for REALTOR® issues that lead to an RPAC contribution.

As a REALTOR®, you have no doubt heard about the tax reform plan being debated in the United States Senate.  The Tax Cut and Jobs Act threatens homeowners with a loss of tax incentives and a reduction in home values.  Eliminating the state and local property tax deduction and changes to the capital gains exemption will increase taxes now and when a home is sold. These incentives are critical for a strong housing market that creates jobs and builds stable communities.
