GCAR Community Relations Committee Has Had a Busy Spring
Double H Ranch
On May 19, GCAR Members ventured out on a misty day and joined members of SAR to work on the grounds of the Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne.
A camp for children with life-threatening illnesses, the Double H Ranch is nestled in New York’s beautiful Adirondack Park.
Members look forward to this annual event to clean up the grounds and plant flowers to prepare for the summer camp attendees!
Many thanks to Judy Kaiser, Dominic Indelicato, Brenda Larkin, Jonie Civill, and Community Relations Chair, Karen Cahill for helping with this very worthy cause!
On May 21, Community Relations Chair Karen Cahill continued volunteering for the National Muslim Soup Kitchen Project.
Spaghetti and meatballs for over 300 people were made in Watervliet to help feed members of the community in both Watervliet and Troy.
The Muslim Soup Kitchen Project also holds monthly soup kitchens in various locations around the area.
Habitat of Schenectady County gets a helping hand from GCAR members
On Friday, June 10, GCAR members Brenda Larkin, Kathleen Sullivan, Felton McLaughlin, Rachel Pitts, Diane Sluus, and GCAR Community Relations Chair Karen Cahill volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady County.
Members taped, caulked, and painted trim in a new 4-bedroom, 2-story Habitat house which is being prepared for a family to move in this summer.
“For the Love of Bags and Bling”
St. Paul’s Center (Rensselaer), a shelter for women and children, held its annual fundraiser in Troy on June 18.
GCAR Community Relations committee members Karen Cahill (Chair), Chris Glogowski, and Ginny O’Brien were on hand to help with the event. This year’s fundraiser had vendors, music, and a food truck and of course, there were purses and jewelry to bid on with proceeds benefitting St. Paul’s Center.
