Tell Governor Hochul to say NO to “good cause” eviction!
The state Legislature and Gov. Kathy Hochul are currently considering including so-called “good cause” eviction legislation in this year’s state budget. It is imperative to combat the narrative that “good cause” eviction would be good policy and reiterate our strong opposition to this proposal.
The current phase of our advocacy in opposition to “good cause” eviction involves calling the governor’s office directly – please follow the short instructions below to make your voice heard by calling the governor and urging her to oppose “good cause” eviction under any circumstance. Thank you for your efforts on this important issue.
Steps to contact Governor Hochul’s Office:
- Dial: (518) 474-7516 to reach the governor’s office in Albany.
- Ask to be transferred to Stacy Lynch (Governor’s Chief of Staff).
- When Stacy’s assistant answers, or if you are directed to leave a voice message:
- Provide your name, that you are a REALTOR®, and the town or city where you live.
- I’d like to register my strong opposition to Good Cause Eviction and ask that the governor continue holding the line and oppose it under any circumstance.
- You can end your call there and thank them for their time;
Some of the reasons why NYSAR is opposed to this legislation include:
- This bill will not create any additional affordable housing and will only exacerbate our current housing crisis.
- It allows tenants to legally stay in a building essentially forever, even after their lease has expired.
- And provides unreasonable burdens, especially on small property owners, to afford proper maintenance of their buildings.
