GCAR Supports several non-profit organizations in 2019
Many thanks to the membership for your support of the Community Outreach Fund. Twelve organizations received donations in 2019 due to YOUR generosity. The organizations are as follows: Rebuilding Together Saratoga County; Schenectady Co. Community College Foundation (food pantry); Troy Rehabilitation Improvement Program; Capital Roots; Schoharie Co. Community Action Program; Joseph’s House & Shelter and the Double H Ranch. Ginny O’Brien was the recipient of GCAR’s Good Neighbor Award and Ginny chose St. Paul’s Center in Rensselaer to be the recipient of the $3,000.000 grant. St. Paul’s Center is a shelter for mothers and children located in Rensselaer County. After the Fire, Umbrella of the Capital District, Operation Adopt a Soldier and Wellspring received their donation from the Community Outreach Fund in December. Below is a summary of the goals/missions of these organizations.
After the Fire members provide families who have had fires with emotional support, information and referrals to local community resources, personal hygiene products, clothing and a place to spend the night. They also help coordinate donations of household items and furniture.
Umbrella of the Capital District’s mission is to help seniors and people with disabilities in Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, and Saratoga counties maintain their homes and independence by providing a wide range of handyperson services.
It is the goal of Operation Adopt a Soldier to raise and maintain awareness to the American people of day-to-day sacrifices that the military men and women and their families make to protect our freedoms. One objective, among many, is to bring a sense of home to the soldiers by way of letters, care packages, gifts, phone cards, etc.
Wellspring is the domestic violence and sexual assault services resource for Saratoga County residents and the sexual assault services resource for Washington County residents. Wellspring’s mission is to support survivors and engage the community to end relationship and sexual abuse.
